Amicus Support Interest & Referral Form

You do not need to write a Justice. You do not need to call a judge, contact chambers, flood the Clerk’s Office, confront anyone involved in the case, or create chaos in the streets… Justice does not need another Body shouting from the sidewalk. Help this case reach the people who may have something meaningful to say to the Court. 1.Read before you react. Read the petition, the case summary, and the public materials we provide. Understand the constitutional question before sharing it. The goal is not to convince people to blindly agree with us; it is to get informed people to examine the record and decide whether the issue deserves Supreme Court review. 2.Share the case with your circle. Send the public case page to family, friends, community leaders, veterans, journalists, educators, civil-rights advocates, and anyone concerned with due process and constitutional rights. Do not alter the documents or add claims that are not contained in the record. 3.Complete our “Amicus Support Interest Form.” This will not be a petition to the Supreme Court and will not automatically make anyone an amicus. It is simply a way for us to organize people who want to help. The form can ask for: name; city/state; email; organization or profession, if any; area of interest; whether the person is an attorney; whether they can introduce us to an attorney or organization; whether they or their organization may be interested in amicus support; and permission for us to contact them. No one should submit private case information, Social Security numbers, children’s information, or other sensitive data. 4.Make one good introduction. If you personally know an attorney, law professor, legal organization, law-school clinic, civil-rights organization, veterans’ organization, family-rights advocate, Second Amendment organization, due-process organization, or access-to-justice group, do not simply tell them, “You should help these people.” Send them the case page and say, in substance: “Would you review this case and determine whether the constitutional question falls within your work or whether your organization would consider amicus support?” 5.If you are a lawyer or legal organization, contact us directly. We are particularly interested in people who understand constitutional law, civil rights, due process, state action, judicial notice, access to courts, family integrity, firearm-related constitutional rights, veterans’ interests, or the treatment of pro se litigants. An effective amicus brief should add a perspective or legal argument that helps the Court understand why the question matters beyond the two Petitioners; simply repeating the petition is less useful. The Court itself explains that an amicus brief should bring relevant matter that assists the Court. 6.Connect interested amici with Supreme Court-qualified counsel. This is where public support becomes actual amicus curiae support. Supreme Court guidance states that the attorney serving as counsel of record for an amicus brief must be a member of the Supreme Court Bar, and an individual who is not a member of that Bar cannot file a pro se amicus brief. A lawyer who is interested but is not admitted to the Supreme Court Bar can therefore work with qualified Supreme Court counsel. 7.Move quickly once the Supreme Court case is docketed. After our petition receives its Supreme Court docket number, we will post that number and the official docket link on our website. Under the current 2026 rule, an amicus supporting the Petitioners at the certiorari stage generally has 30 days after the case is placed on the Supreme Court docket or after the Court calls for a response, whichever is later. That deadline cannot be extended. The amicus must also ensure the parties receive the required advance notice; if the brief itself is filed at least 10 days before the deadline, the filing can serve as that notice. 8.Let the lawyers handle the actual Court filing. Nobody supporting us needs to learn Supreme Court printing rules or mail documents to Washington. Amicus counsel handles the brief, disclosures, service, formatting, word limits, paper copies, and electronic filing. Current Supreme Court guidance requires cert-stage amicus briefs to comply with the Court’s booklet rules, be accompanied by proof of service and word-count certification, and also be electronically filed. 9.Do not send signatures, letters, petitions, gifts, or personal appeals to the Justices. A thousand private letters to the Court are not a substitute for one properly researched amicus brief. The Court’s Code of Conduct specifically addresses communications concerning pending matters made outside the presence of the parties or their lawyers. The proper channel is the judicial record – not private persuasion. 10.Keep educating people after the brief is filed. Share the official docket. Share lawful public records. Encourage journalists, scholars, organizations, and citizens to examine the issue. Correct misinformation when necessary, but do not threaten, harass, dox, intimidate, or target anyone connected to the litigation. The purpose is not to create a mob around a case. It is to build informed public understanding around a constitutional question.
